Bio

Background: Dr. Kelly is the Interim Chief Academic Executive Officer, Prisma Health and is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. He is the Associate Program Director for the DeLoache Fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and Outreach Director for the South Carolina LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) Program.

After graduating from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa, he worked in graduate medical education training positions in Pediatrics and Psychiatry in London. His U.S. medical training included residency in Pediatrics at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield followed by Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics fellowship training at the University of Maryland and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He was on the faculty of the S.I.U. School of Medicine for 7 years before joining the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital Upstate (formerly the Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital) in 1995.

Dr. Kelly is a Past-President of the Society for Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics. He served on the Executive Committee of the Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of the American Academy of Pediatrics and was a member of the national AAP’s Committee on Continuing Medical Education. He was also a member of the Sub-Board of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics of the American Board of Pediatrics for 7 years, chairing the Credentials Committee. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics

Dr. Kelly’s early research was primarily in the areas of hearing impairment and learning and attention problems and he has authored numerous textbook chapters, journal articles and abstracts. His current focus is on early identification and treatment of children with developmental and behavioral problems and cross sector collaborations to promote healthy child development.
Teaching Interest(s): Teaching and mentoring Fellows in the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship Program.
Teaching Pediatric Residents in the ambulatory clinic setting.
