    Continuing Student Scholarships

    The College awards more than $100,000 in scholarships annually thanks to supportive alumni and friends of the school. 

    Applications are open for 2024-2025 academic year scholarships

    • The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 24 at 11:59p.m. Students may apply here »
    • Students will be notified on or before August 1, 2024 if they received an award.

    Who can apply?

    If you are currently enrolled as a major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, you may apply for departmental scholarships.

    How are scholarship recipients selected?

    You must complete a general scholarship application to be considered for our departmental scholarships. The SJMC scholarship committee reviews all applications and then scholarships are awarded based on a variety of factors, including academic merit, leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities and experience in the industry. 

    How do you apply?

    Scholarship awards are non-renewable. You must re-apply each year for SJMC departmental scholarships.  The deadline to apply for these scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year was March 17, 2023.

    How will you know if you receive a departmental scholarship?

    You will be notified in July about the status of your application. Also recipients must  complete an online form and the online form must be submitted in order to receive the scholarship.

    How much scholarship money is available?

    SJMC departmental scholarships are competitive and limited. The number and amount of scholarships awarded vary and are subject to funds available.

    When will you receive your scholarship money?

    Scholarships awarded in July are for the next academic year.

    Who can apply?

    Students who are enrolled as majors in the School of Information Science may apply for departmental scholarships.

    What is the criterion for departmental scholarships?

    • You must submit the scholarship application.
    • You must be enrolled for the upcoming semester in at least 12 credit hours and have applied for financial aid for that semester.
    • Academic merit, as well as other credentials — including student involvement with campus groups and organizations are factors used to determine scholarship recipients

    When and how do I apply?

    When a scholarship is available, students will be notified via USC email and BSIS listserv.
