  EMF: Mallinckrodt Grants

The Offices of the Vice President for Research and Corporate and Foundation Relations are pleased to coordinate an internal call for proposals to The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation. The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation is a private foundation that funds basic biomedical research throughout the United States. The mission of the Foundation is to support early stage investigators engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease.

The Edward Mallinckrodt Foundation (EMF) holds an annual grant competition for early stage investigators; awards are for three years maximum (with no allowed extensions) funded at $60,000/year. The EMF only accepts two proposals from an institution per funding cycle (annually).

USC's internal deadline for this call for proposals is 5:00 pm on Monday, June 23, 2014. The Foundationís full proposal deadline is August 1, 2014. Applicants must hold either a MD or PhD, be in the first to fourth year of their tenure track faculty position, and not have current NIH R01 funding. Proposals from ineligible applicants will not be considered in the internal competition.

For the internal deadline, please submit A one-page lay summary of the project including the projectís title (the lay summary is of particular importance since their board includes non-scientist members), A two page project description including aims and objectives, and A four page NIH-formatted biosketch for the project PI and any relevant collaborators to Beth Herron ( ) by 5pm June 23, 2014.
