Attendance
As you can see from the grade components, attendance and participation are absolutely crucial to this class. You will have 2 free skip days for things such as emergencies and illness. Additional absences beyond your 2 free skip ones will hurt your final grade by reducing the points you receive for attendance/participation portion of your grade. Not attending Piney Lake will count as 3 absences and will hurt your final grade. If there are special circumstances causing additional absences, please contact me by phone or email. Excessive or chronic tardiness to class will also be considered when computing the attendance/participation portion of your grade.

Journals
One and a half to two (1.5-2) pages, doubled spaced, is required for each journal assignment. Sometimes you will be given a specific topic or several topics from which you may choose. If no specific topics are given, you may choose from the topics we have covered in class the previous two weeks. The attached schedule shows the dates the assignments are due and the number of pages required. Your journal entries are to be typed in Times New Roman, and 12-point font. They are due at the beginning of class. They should be either emailed to Melissa or brought to class and given to Melissa. Please be sure to include your name, the topic, and the journal assignment #.

Enrichment Activities
As stated in the course description, getting out of the classroom and experiencing UNCG first hand is a major component of this course. From the list of categories below, you will need to attend 4 activities and write one page about each of the 4 activities. One activity per category please. Two of these activities/assignments are due on Monday, September 24 and the other two are due on Wednesday, November 14. These assignments should be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font, be no longer than 1 page in length, and be double-spaced. Be sure that each assignment includes the following: date, time, location, activity content, and whether or not you liked the activity.

UNCG Team Quest/Piney Lake
We will go to Piney Lake either Friday, October 19th or 26th from 12:45 to 5:00. Dress comfortably, because, weather permitting, we will be out of doors. As stated above, not attending Piney Lake will hurt your grade in that it will count as 3 absences. At Piney Lake, participation is not a part of the attendance/participation grade component. There could be a small charge for this activity. Also if the class would like, we might go out to supper afterwards.

Project- choose either Option 1 or 2, not both
The project needs to be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font, and double-spaced. The required number of pages is listed below. This project is due at the beginning of the last class of the semester.

  5. Did you achieve your goals? If you don’t know the results yet, do you think you will achieve these 3 goals? If you didn’t achieve or don’t think you will achieve your goals, what do you think you will need to change or do differently to allow you to achieve them?
