Course description:
Orientation to the structures of higher education. Exposure to college resources and educational planning. Analysis of college success factors for student achievement.
Course goals:
- Introduction to college
- Introduction to higher education and the role of the community college
- Educational planning
Course objectives:
- Describe in a paper, the structure of higher education: How to select a campus with the best fit, general admission requirements, level of degrees, general steps necessary to get a degree, and how to read college catalogs.
- Present a project summarizing the resources available on college campuses.
- Present a project describing the available campus student services.
- Keep a journal which documents the development of personal, career and academic goals.
- Present an educational plan.
Methods of instruction:
- Lecture/Guest speakers
- Group activities
- Field trips
Evaluation and expectations:
- Attendance-Be prepared to attend each and every class and be on time
- Participation-Be prepared to participate in all class activities, this means all homework and reading must be completed before class
- Classwork and Homework-Complete all assignments to the best of your ability and on time
Required materials:
- PCC catalog
- Guidance 10 handbook
- 3 ringer binder
- Cornell note paper
Grading:
- Grading is credit/No Credit. Students must complete all assignments to receive credit
