alumnus elected State Library Board Chair
Dan Mackey has recently been elected to chair the
South Carolina State Library Board of Trustees.
Mackey,
a native of
Camden, S.C., US Marine Corps veteran, and 1963 graduate
of the
University of South Carolina, began his career as President
of the
Greer Chamber of Commerce. He was Executive Director of
the
Chester County Development Board and was an Industrial
Development Representative for the State of North Carolina.
Mackey was the first Director of a Regional Council of
Governments in SC, the Upper Savannah COG in Greenwood,
where he served for seventeen
years. He was appointed Executive Director of the SC Advisory
Commission on
Intergovernmental Relations, a state agency responsible
for bringing all levels of government
together to resolve common problems.
He concluded his career
in Public Service as Director of
the State Budget & Control Board’s Office of
Regional Development and retired in 1999. From
January 2002 to January 2003 Mackey served as Interim Director
for the Kershaw County
Library.
