Randy
Covington is on the faculty of the USC School of Journalism and
Mass Communications, where he teaches classes in new media as
well as media ethics.
For the World Association of Newspapers & News Publishers
(WAN-IFRA) , he serves as a consultant and professional trainer,
working with news organizations worldwide. Clients include El
Nuevo Dia and Primera Hora in San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Korea
Press Foundation in Seoul; the Malayala Manorama in Kottayam,
India; the Financial Times in London; and many others. Newsplex
also provides training for strategic communicators, including
Voice of America, the United Nations, the South Carolina Municipal
Association and many others.
Covington worked in local television news for 27 years, serving
in management positions with television stations in Houston,
Louisville, Boston, Philadelphia and Columbia, S.C.
His honors include a duPont Columbia Citation, an Ohio State
Award and four Emmys. In 1997, RTNDA/Carolinas recognized him
as its news director of the year.
Covington started his career in print with newspapers in his
home state of Indiana. He also has worked as a newswriter for
the Associated Press and in radio.
