What is The University Women's Club?
The University Women's Club of the University of South Carolina is an organization
that promotes friendship among its members, leadership among women and support for
the University community.
First formed in 1921, and then reorganized periodically as women's opportunities and
goals reformed, this volunteer association has brought generations of women together
across the university for over 100 years!
Over the decades, the organization evolved in ways that reflect the many changes in
the lives of women associated with the university. Many women who now join the university
community juggle growing demands for their time, needed both to grow careers and necessary
for personal, family and community care.
The University Women's Club aims to create a welcoming place where university women
can meet, learn from each other and build support networks within the stable university
community. We like to hear from all who take interest in our effort, especially female
faculty, spouses and plus-ones. A pillar of stability through decades of change,
our club offers programs and common interest groups for members, as well as three
annual social events on campus.
What do we do?
The University Women’s Club works with University Leadership to provide members with
a variety of social opportunities through the year:
Annual Fall Coffee
Holiday Decorating
Annual Spring Luncheon
Programs and University Tours
Common Interest Groups
Who can join?
We welcome all in our University community, upholding that "learning humanizes character"
as is inscribed in latin on the original seal of the University of South Carolina,
founded in 1801. We ask that our members promote friendship among each other, leadership
among women and support for the University community.
