The mission of the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation is to support projects that improve health outcomes and increase access to care in the Palmetto State.
 
Proposals are accepted in either the core health priorities OR overarching priorities described below. For more information, please see the program website above.
 
The 4 Core Health Priorities are:
 - Oral Health – improving the oral health care system by increasing access, enhancing workforce development, and supporting quality and innovation
 - Mental Health – building resilience and well-being for youth and families by strengthening the mental health workforce, improving quality and coordination of mental health care, and enhancing collaboration in communities to support families
 - Diabetes – in partnership with Diabetes Free SC, aligning efforts of diabetes-focused community partners across the Palmetto State
 - Social Determinants of Health – supporting ways in which health care, public health, and social sector stakeholders can take coordinated action to address individual, community, and structural determinants of health equity.
*Note: currently SC BCBSSC is not accepting unsolicited proposals for Diabetes or Social Determinants of Health.
 
Overarching priorities include access to care, building a stronger healthcare workforce, improving the quality and value of healthcare, and investing in the health and well-being of SC’s children and families.

The BCBSSC Foundation only accepts a limited number of LOIs from USC per funding cycle.


 - The USC internal deadline for this Call for Proposals is 5:00 pm on Friday, June 28, 2024.
 - Applicants will be notified by July 12th if they are selected to go forward to the BCBSSC Foundation
 - External LOIs are due to BCBS by August 7, 2024.
 

Submission Process

Limited submissions MUST be coordinated with the Office of the Vice President for Research.

  • Project Description* (max 750 words). At top of page, provide the project title, PI, and list of key collaborators, with departments and emails. Description must include: 1) Overview and details of the project (written in language appropriate for a broad audience); 2) Health need(s) for the population served; 3) Significance, Impact, and outcomes

*the project description must provide a convincing argument as to why this project is important or valuable for BCBS to fund including how this work meets one of the Foundation’s priority areas.

  • Budget – anticipated total request and key expenses (this can be preliminary/summary to be finalized if selected to move forward)
  • a 2-3 page CV/biosketch for the PI and all relevant team members (SCiENcv preferred)

 
Applicants should be aware that if selected to move forward the external LOI also requires the following:
 - SC counties served by the project.
 - Total number of people reached.
 - Percent economically disadvantaged with justification.
 - Bulleted list of key expenses/proposed use of funds.
 - Bulleted list of other anticipated sources of revenue for this project, including restrictions placed on other sources of funding.
