The Institute's Mission
To generate key scientific evidence and novel solutions to the pathogenic pathways
leading to emerging or persisting infectious diseases.
The Institute's Objectives
- Research infectious diseases of pandemic or epidemic potential and mitigate emerging threats
- Establish an international reputation in translational medicine, global health, and infectious disease
- Promote transdisciplinary research through collaborative multidisciplinary investigations
- Translate scientific outcomes into direct bench-to-bedside applications
- Provide professional development for institute faculty to become a highly trained, well-rounded study team
- Foster relationships with legislative partners to create sustainable infectious disease related policy

- Focus on project startup and faculty training.
- Begin South Carolina congenital cohort recruitment.
- Continue South Carolina congenital cohort recruitment.
- Begin Brazil febrile cohort recruitment and field mosquito collections.
- Begin El Salvador congenital cohort recruitment.
- Begin diagnostics, sequencing, & immunological analysis of samples.
- As our research continues, we will end recruitment, finish collecting samples, and perform data analysis.
- With the completion of our grant activities, we will share our findings and continue our work by applying for additional funding sources.
