Why do I have to not declare
my major to participate in the program?
All incoming OSP freshmen do not declare their majors
until their sophomore year so that the OSP staff can act as
your academic advisors. This gives us the ability to be more
involved in your academic planning. Most of the classes that
you would take as a freshman are known as general education
courses. General education courses are freshman-level courses
required by most majors.

Will being
an undeclared major prevent me from graduating on time?
No, your undeclared status during the freshman year
will not prevent you from graduating on time. The classes
you enroll in will be based on your intended major.

Are the OSP classes
remedial?
No, the OSP classes are not remedial. The classes
are designed to be small in enrollment number to assist the
students in making a smoother transition to a big college.
The course is the same as that all other freshmen take. In
fact, OSP professors often require more challenging assignments.

Will being
in the OSP prevent me from being in other programs on campus?
Participation in the OSP will not prevent students
from being involved in other activities on campus. The program
does have requirements that have to be fulfilled, but we strongly
encourage students to get involved in clubs and activities
on campus. A student's participation in extracurricular activities
makes the college experience more meaningful.

How is my tuition
reduced?
Courses taught by OSP professors have no tuition
expense. Students are only required to pay the fee expenses
associated with their OSP classes.

Is the OSP a program
for the freshman year only?
The OSP provides services to students until they
graduate from the University. However, we do have very structured
freshman year activities and services. As upperclassmen, you
can still be actively involved in the OSP by attending cultural
events, social events, workshops, and by serving as a mentor
or tutor.

Are writing studio
and tutoring mandatory parts of the program?
Writing studio is required for some students. After
submitting a writing sample, the English instructors will
determine if a student will need to attend writing studio.
The OSP English and math classes do require that all students
attend tutoring. Tutoring sessions are used to reinforce what
you have learned in class and have been proven to help students
succeed.
