About
The SmartState Center for Translational Cancer Therapeutics at the College of Pharmacy was established in 2011 under the direction of Igor Roninson through a state-funded endowed chair program.
Roninson is internationally recognized for cancer research, including his study of multi-drug resistance in cancer and chemotherapy-induced senescence in tumor cells. The Center for Translational Cancer Therapy provides a platform for the discovery and development of cancer drugs.
Principal Research Interests
Our principal research interests include:
- Developing personalized cancer therapy based on target and drug discovery through functional genomics and chemical genomics
- Chemical genomics of tumor microenvironment
- Mechanisms and pharmacological modulation of a damage-inducible signal transduction pathway implicated in cancer
- Maintenance of chromosome stability by homologous recombination (HR) DNA repair mechanisms and cancer progression
- Developing combinatorial approaches of newly discovered drugs with existing therapies for breast and prostate cancer
