Chemical Engineering

Our department continues to be a catalyst for change. We are at the forefront of research efforts in the areas of energy, fuel cells, biomaterials, and catalysis to name just a few. Our outstanding research efforts are also catalyzing our undergraduate program. Our enrollments in chemical engineering have doubled since 2007, which is almost twice the rate of growth as the entire College and four times the rate of the entire university.

Rothberg Scholarship Application [pdf]

Students pursuing degrees in chemical engineering with strong academic records who have been involved in high school and community leadership will be selected to receive Henry M. Rothberg Bicentennial Scholarships. Scholarship levels can be up to $16,000 (i.e., up to $4,000 per year) depending on the qualifications of the student, with typical awards in the $1,000-$2,000 range. NSF Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates Program [doc]

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina (USC) is pleased to announce their National Science Foundation (NSF) Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program! Summer Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research in an academic setting under the direction of one of our full-time faculty members. Students will perform research involving the study of nanostructured materials, heterogeneous catalysis, spectroscopy, reaction engineering, electrochemistry, and molecular simulation to advance the understanding of processes and materials that underpin combustion, CO2 capture and storage, and the chemical conversion of CO2 to fuels and chemicals.

Department of Chemical Engineering Annual Report [pdf]

Our department continues to be a catalyst for change. We are at the forefront of research efforts in the areas of energy, fuel cells, biomaterials, and catalysis to name just a few. This report emphasizes the leadership role our department has within the university and nationally in renewable energy. Another example is the NSF (National Science Foundation) IGERT (Integrative Graduate and Research Traineeship) program headed by Professors Chris Williams and Jochen Lauterbach.
