Senior broadcast major gets air time tonight on ESPN-U
Cory Burkarth, a senior broadcast major from Richmond, Va., will be a member of ESPN’s broadcasting crew during tonight’s 9 p.m. telecast of the men’s basketball game between South Carolina and Florida.
Selected to represent the university by journalism professor Rick Peterson and School of Journalism and Mass Communications Director Carol Pardun, Burkarth will be guest talent on ESPN-U, which will broadcast the game simultaneously with ESPN’s primary cable channel. Joining Burkarth will be ESPN commentator Rob Stone and University of Florida student John Hornbuckle. They will focus more on campus life and student involvement at the respective universities and less on play-by-play or color commentary.
The broadcast, part of ESPN-U’s “Campus Connection” series that allows students to participate in practically every aspect of the production process, will feature videos taken by both students of their respective campuses.
Burkarth directs "Capital City Sports," a 30-minute campus sports television show, which airs weekly on SG-TV. The show, which operates through the Office of Student Media, reports on Gamecock athletics and campus club sports.
