Got style? Fashion Week delivers April 6-8

The hottest spring trends from local boutiques and designers’ showrooms will be on display at the University of South Carolina April 6 – 8 when the Fashion Board at USC celebrates Fashion Week 2010.

Kicking off the week’s events will be “East Side Elegance,” a Manhattan-themed fashion show, set for 7 p.m. April 6 at 701 Whaley St. On display will be the latest styles from Brittons, Mary, M Boutique, La Roque, Van Jean, Unforgettable Jewelers, Coplons, Bohemian, Just the Thing and Pink Sorbet. Student designers include Emma Mahon of Emma Graham Designs, Molly Simon, Brad Boultinghouse, Emily Smith and Camille Yanair. Tickets are $7 at the door or $5 in advance. “Compassion is Always in Fashion,” a community-service endeavor focused on giving back to the Midlands community, is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 7 at The Carolina Coliseum outside on Greene St. and inside in front of the student canteen. Gently used clothing will be collected and donated to The Clothing Closet at the Richland County Department of Social Services. Drop-off boxes will be located in the Carolina Coliseum.

Fashion-industry insiders will discuss the highly competitive apparel industry April 8, at a free public forum titled “La Dolce Vita” at the auditorium of the Arnold School of Public Health. Among the speakers will be Annabelle Cain, owner and designer of La Roque; fashion photographer and artist Travis Teate; Southern Tide executives Don Oates and Diane Stephenson; Britton’s representative Lucky Levinson; and Anne Postic, style blogger at

The Fashion Board at USC comprises more than 180 student members who have a passion for fashion and are inspired to share their visions and expertise with the public.
