Faculty to perform recital Oct. 5
Ronald Davis, professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of South Carolina’s School of Music, will perform in a faculty recital Monday, Oct. 5.
The performance will take place 7:30 p.m. at the school’s recital hall and is free and open to the public.
Davis is coordinator of the Brass Teaching Division and principal tubist with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Sinfonia Orchestra under Roger Wagner, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony and Charlotte Symphony. In 1991, as soloist with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, he performed the South Carolina premiere of the Concerto for Bass Tuba and Orchestra by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Davis’ recital will feature “Suite in A minor for Flute and Strings,” by Georg Philipp Telemann; “Voodoo - Fantasy on Melodies from Haiti,” by Robert Grenier; “Tuba Concerto,” by Martin Ellerby; “Sonata for Tuba and Piano Op. 34,” by Trygve Madsen; and “Tempo di Minuetto (In the Style of Pugnani),” by Fritz Kreisler.
