Honor Society Launches Scholarship Program
University of South Carolina National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) members, listen up!
You’re invited to join more than 700 members nationwide to compete in the Summer Success S2 Challenge for the chance to win a scholarship.
The USC chapter consists of approximately 1,800 students led by Douglas Brown, the chapter president. Dr. Claudia Benitez-Nelson, associate professor in the department of geological sciences and Stuart Hunter, assistant vice provost, are faculty advisors. Summer Success S2 Challenge is a 12-week program that wasl launched June 6 and continues until August.
Each week will feature a different challenge on the NSCS Facebook page as well as in the weekly newsletter for members to compete for points. For every “challenge” members complete, they will earn a certain number of points. Each week members will have the chance to win a prize.
At the end of the summer, the top three S2 challengers with the most points will be awarded scholarships. NSCS will award a $1,000 scholarship to the top challenger and two $500 scholarships to the runners-up.
“This is the first time we’ve done something like this on such a huge scale using the national Facebook page so we’re all very excited about the outcome,” said Leah Schklar, coordinator of Member Services and Interaction, and manager of the NSCS Facebook page. “We love the idea of engaging and helping members grow throughout the summer, but we’re most excited about awarding a $1,000 scholarship at the end of it!”
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and an honors organization for first-and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only and is based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS awards more than a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships every year.
