USC makes president's community service honor roll

The University of South Carolina was again named to the annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This year the Columbia campus was among 114 universities and colleges to have earned the added recognition of “with distinction,” which denotes a higher level of accomplishment in community service and service learning. USC was the only university or college in South Carolina to earn this level of recognition. More on the honor roll is available online at

Each year thousands of USC students join faculty and staff to use their skills to benefit the greater community. During the 2009 – 2010 year, a reported 23, 436 students, faculty and staff participated in volunteer service, donating 346,678 service hours to the community, with an estimated economic impact of $5,636,984. When reported philanthropic donations from the Carolina campus community to the community of $1,405,010 were added, USC’s total service impact amounted to more than $7 million. Study Abroad program earns accolade

The University of South Carolina’s MOSAIC: Meaningful Opportunities for Students to Achieve International Competencies program is a finalist in the national GoAbroad Innovation Awards competition. MOSAIC, which is designed to increase international competencies and student diversity in study abroad programs, is an initiative of USC’s Study Abroad Office.
