Carolina-Clemson blood drive is Nov. 15 - 19

The 26th Annual Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive gets under way Monday, Nov. 15, and runs through Friday, Nov. 19, on both school campuses. All University of South Carolina and Clemson University students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans are encouraged to participate.

University of South Carolina donors will receive a commemorative, long-sleeved T-shirt and free food.

The blood drive trophy will be awarded to the winning team at the Carolina/Clemson football game Nov. 27 at Death Valley (Clemson Memorial Stadium).

“After a huge success with last year’s event, we are really hoping to continue with great participation this year,” said USC student John Mecke, chairman of internal affairs for the Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive. “Last year, we reached out to alumni and they came through. We hope to see the same this year.”

The Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive is held annually the week before the Carolina/Clemson football game and comes at the start of the holiday season when the blood supply typically weakens.

Over the past 25 years of competition, Carolina and Clemson have collected more than 80,000 units of blood, potentially saving more than 240,000 lives.

Carolina won last year's contest with 4,542 donors, compared with Clemson's 3,480 donors. Carolina fans can give blood at the following locations in Columbia:
