Peter Kolkay to premiere new work March 23
Peter Kolkay, assistant professor of bassoon at the University of South Carolina, will perform March 23 in the School of Music recital hall.
The 7:30 p.m. performance is free and open to the public.
Kolkay will perform with pianist Alexandra Nguyen, an assistant professor of collaborative piano at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The duo, which began playing together as graduate students at the Eastman School of Music, will commemorate their 10-year partnership by performing Ida Gotkovsky’s “Variations concertantes,” the first piece they played together.
They also will perform “Seven Desert Elegies,” a new work written especially for them by university associate professor of composition John Fitz Rogers.
The program also will include two Romantic-era works: “Three Romances” by Robert Schumann, originally for oboe but transcribed for bassoon, and William Hurlstone’s “Sonata.”
