Thousands of Gamecocks move in

Refrigerators, computers, clothes and even a teddy bear or two were among the items brought to campus Saturday as residence halls opened for the fall semester on the Columbia campus. Approximately 6,853 students will live on campus this year.

Move-In Day at Carolina is a family affair. In addition to Moms and Dads (and a reluctant sibling or two), faculty, staff and students helped an estimated 4,400 new Gamecocks get settled into college life. This freshman class is the largest in USC history.

There are a number of “Welcome Week” activities planned, including First Night Carolina, convocation for new students on Sunday and the First Year Reading Experience on Monday. To find out more, go to
