Continued: 'Valley Song'

Fugard was born in Middleburg, South Africa, in 1932, the son of white English and Afrikaans parents. He has written 20 plays, the most recent of which is “Exits and Entrances,” written and produced in Los Angeles in 2004. Fugard’s only novel, “Tsotsi,” was made into a film that won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the Academy Awards in 2005. He’s currently an adjunct professor of playwriting, acting and directing in the department of theatre and dance at the University of California, San Diego.
