Spaces remain for Young Artists Workshop

A few spaces remain for the University of South Carolina’s Young Artists Workshop, the popular after-school art program for children age 6 – 17.

Spring semester classes will begin Friday, Feb. 20. To register, call Sierra Machado at 803-777-3841, or send an e-mail to The cost is $65 per child and $55 for children of university faculty, staff and students.

Taught by art education students under the direction of art faculty, the classes will take place Fridays from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in McMaster College, at the corner of Senate and Pickens streets.

Available classes are “Drawing, Painting, & More” (ages 6-7); “Drawing, Painting, & More” (ages 8 - 9); “Drawing, Painting & Ceramics” (ages 10-12); “Drawing, Painting & Fiber Arts” (ages 13-14); and “Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media (ages 15-17).

Artistic ability is not necessary, although children should be interested in art. Students will practice visual problem solving and gain experience in the production, evaluation and appreciation of art. The workshop will end April 10 with an exhibition of the students’ art and a reception in McMaster College.
