USC Dance Company to present two shows
The University of South Carolina’s Dance Company offers up two separate showcase events Dec. 1 - 4 at Drayton Hall.
During the first half of the evening, beginning at 6 p.m., the company will perform eight original contemporary dance pieces by student and guest choreographers. At 8 p.m., following the contemporary dance showcase, Wideman/Davis Dance, the resident professional dance company at the university, will present original choreography, including “Balance,” a dance theatre piece addressing the issue of homelessness in Columbia.
Tickets for both shows are $16 for the public; $14 for military, faculty and staff; and $10 for students and are available at the Carolina Coliseum box office, 777-5112.
Among the guest choreographers at the early program is New York-based Celia Rowlson-Hall, who has become an in-demand source for music and fashion video choreography and whose work has been performed at Lincoln Center Institute Clark Theater, Dance New Amsterdam and New York Fashion Week. Also to be performed are the works of guest choreographers Peter Garick, formerly of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Hannah Lagerway, a dancer with Wideman/Davis Dance whose original works have been performed internationally.
