USC colleges ranked among best by U.S. News and World Report
Two University of South Carolina colleges have made the list of U.S. News and World Report’s 2013 Best Online Education Programs.
The COE first began offering online degree programs in 2005 with a master’s degree in educational administration for graduate students pursuing careers in school administration. Three other degrees are now offered, including a master’s in teaching, a master’s in educational technology and, most recently, a master’s in higher education business administration.
“Our faculty recognize that to be a 21st century College of Education that serves and prepares professional educators, leaders and scholars, we must be innovative and creative in designing and offering online courses and programs that are relevant to the needs of the field,” says Lemuel Watson, dean of the College of Education. “I continue to be excited about the willingness of our faculty who put in the extra effort to make our College of Education one that is responsive to the needs of the state.”
USC’s online graduate engineering program dates back to 1968. It was developed for professional engineers working in the field. The college now offers a doctoral degree, a Master of Science and a Master of Engineering degree.
“We have a long and proud history of alumni and faculty support for the program,” said Mike Matthews, professor of chemical engineering and associate dean for academic planning. “The program allows working engineering professionals with busy schedules to learn from top notch faculty, no matter where they live.”
The survey results were based on admissions selectivity, faculty credentials and training, student engagement and accreditation, and student services and technology.
