Forum to focus on impact of health care reform
Proposed health care reforms and their potential effects take the spotlight Nov. 16 during an open-forum panel discussion to be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Law School Auditorium.
A moderated panel will review the legislative process to date, followed by a clarification and de-mystification of proposed health care reform legislation -- with an emphasis on topics most relevant to the University community. The forum will close with a discussion of steps for effecting policy change through engagement and action, with time for questions and answers.
Speakers will be Darcy Freedman, an assistant professor in the College of Social Work; Steve Beckham, the University's government affairs liaison; John Ruoff, research director, South Carolina Fair Share; and Alan Tauber, president, University Graduate Student Association.
Charles Bierbauer, dean of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies, will moderate the event, which is open to the public.
The forum is sponsored by the College of Social Work, Science and Health Communication Research Group, Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities, and South Carolina Access Initiative.
