BP oil exploration expert to speak Sept. 17
Cindy Yeilding, a leading BP Petroleum expert on oil exploration, will be the featured guest speaker for a program at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the University of South Carolina.
The talk will be held in the Taber Room, 310, of the department of earth and ocean sciences, located in the Coker Life Sciences Building.
Yeilding will discuss the “Thunder Horse Discovery” in the deepwater of the Gulf of Mexico, where more than 1 billion barrels of oil were located. The discovery has challenged traditional oil exploration methods in the gulf.
Yeilding earned her bachelor’s degree in geology from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. She has been an exploration, production, appraisal and well site operations geoscientist and is BP’s Exploration Renewal Manager, Offshore US. Recently, she has been the chief geoscientist for the Gulf of Mexico, Global Geoscience Technology and R&D manager for BP.
