Tyler Macolly, ’05 finance, insurance and risk management, Spartanburg, S.C.
Described by friends as the “governor” for always seeming “to know someone or meet someone new” wherever he happens to be, Macolly was a Student Government senator for the Moore School of Business. He joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity and was president of the Fraternity Council. His Carolina accomplishments included participating on the Homecoming staff and membership on the Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive. He worked for S.C. House Rep. Scott Talley for four years, and his volunteer service included the Martin King Luther Jr. Day of Service and Brennan Elementary Adopt-A-Student. Macolly is a member of the Gamecock Club and said there’s “nothing better than hearing 2001 and the alma mater after a football game.” He works in commercial property sales and casualty insurance for Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services. “I don’t think you will find anyone that loves the Gamecock Nation more than I do.”
Janet Parker, ’08, broadcast journalism, Columbia
Life on the University campus all four years was a great experience for Parker. She was a resident advisor during her junior and senior years at Patterson Hall, where she also lived as a freshman. The position was like being “a mom” for many. After going home one winter break to find a gift bag from a Patterson resident on her front porch, it was proof of “how you can inspire or affect someone else’s life.” Parker is now senior morning news producer for WACH Fox News’ Good Day show, and hosts a weight loss program on Wednesdays, “Janet’s Journey.” While a student, she was a Carolina Caller student fund-raiser. “I should be the face of Y’ALL because I believe the face of the University of South Carolina is changing much like the face of our nation.”
