People concerned about the nation's mounting debt will have a chance to speak at the first of several public forums on the debt crisis at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the University of South Carolina.
Titled "A Nation in Debt: How Can We Pay the Bills?" the free event is set for the S.C. Political Collections Seminar Room in the Thomas Cooper Library and is expected to last approximately two hours.
S.C. Political Collections is teaming up with the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress, The Kettering Foundation and the National Issues Forums Institute to hold these forums across the country, which are intended to counter the polarizing political discussions and provide valuable insights to policymakers about the debt crisis.
Individuals must register and can do so by calling 803-777-0578. Groups interested in participating should call Herb Hartsook, director of S.C. Political Collections, at 777-0577 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Forum participants will receive a 12-page handbook before the session. Hartsook will moderate the forum and lead the discussion.
Results of the forums will be communicated to the members of South Carolina's congressional delegation and other government leaders.
S.C. Political Collections houses the papers and documents of many of South Carolina's most prominent leaders in Congresss and the General Assembly, as well as papers of the state's political parties and other individuals who have played a pivotal role in the Palmetto State's political history.
