John W. Bachmann
Bachmann began his career at Edward Jones in 1959, working in retail investment, product marketing, strategic planning, corporate finance and technology. In 1980, he succeeded Edward D. “Ted” Jones Jr. as managing partner of Edward Jones. During his tenure, Bachmann grew the firm from 200 offices in 28 states to 9,000 offices throughout the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. He is a former chairman of the Securities Association and chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Bachmann was the Moore School’s first distinguished executive in residence.
A native of Salem, Ill., Bachmann earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wabash College and a MBA in finance from Northwestern University. He received honorary doctoral degrees from Wabash College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His leadership to professional and community organizations includes serving as chairman of the United Way of Greater St. Louis, St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and commissioner of the St. Louis Science Center. He is an emeritus trustee of Wabash College; chairman of the Board of Visitors of the Peter F. Drucker Center; trustee of the Claremont Graduate University and Washington University in St. Louis; and director of AMR Corporation, American Airlines Inc. and Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Bachmann lives in St. Louis.
