Hollings Library dedication focus of ETV program
The University of South Carolina’s dedication of the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library will be the focus of ETV’s “The Big Picture” Thursday, July 29.
The 30-minute ETV news affair show, hosted by Mark Quinn, will air at 7:30 p.m. and feature highlights from the July 23 dedication, including clips of Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Fritz Hollings, Rep. James Clyburn and USC President Harris Pastides. It also will feature news clips from throughout Hollings’ career and Quinn’s interview of Hollings after the dedication event.
The Hollings Library also will be the focus of ETV Radio’s broadcast of “The Big Picture” at 1 p.m. Friday, July 30. The program will feature some sound clips from the July 29 broadcast as well as interviews with Clyburn, Herb Hartsook, director of USC’s South Carolina Political Collections, and Tripp King, former state director for Hollings and special assistant to the dean of University Libraries.
“The Big Picture” will re-air noon (ETV) and 9 p.m. (NPR) Sunday, Aug 1.
More than 1,200 friends and family of Hollings, as well as dignitaries and university faculty, staff and students, attended the library dedication.
The Hollings library, which is connected to the Thomas Cooper Library by a glass-enclosed walkway on the main level, was completed in June. In addition to the S.C. Political Collections, the $18 million, 50,000-square-foot facility will house the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections and Digital Collections. Hollings was instrumental in securing the $14 million in federal funds for the building. The cornerstone of the S.C. Political Collections is the collection of Hollings’ personal papers, which he gave to the university in 1989.
