The Hampton Inn is the host for guests of the Orphan Film Symposium (aka "Orphans 5").   The hotel is located at 822 Gervais Street in The Vista (aka the Congaree Vista), a downtown historic district with galleries, shops and restaurants. The Hampton Inn is in walking distance of University of South Carolina campus, as well as The State Museum, EdVenture Children's Museum, the Riverwalk, and the State House (i.e., the capitol).   All Orphan Film Symposium events are within walking distance of the hotel, but a shuttle bus will also be available to take you to and from events if you prefer.

A block of rooms is reserved for symposium participants.   When making a reservation, you MUST ASK for the Orphan Film Symposium rate:   $104/night for a single room (breakfast included).     With tax, it's $115.44/night.  

Taxi fare from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport to the Hampton Inn runs about $15.

Traveling to Columbia

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is served by Continental, Delta, Northwest, Independence Air, American Eagle, United, and US Airways. Direct flights from New York City take less than 2 hours.   The airport has free wireless Internet access.    www.columbiaairport.com

If you are driving, three interstates bring you to Columbia: I-77 from the north; I-20 from the southwest/northeast; and I-26 from the northwest/southeast. Drive times run about 75 minutes from Charlotte, North Carolina; 80 minutes from Charleston, South Carolina; 3.5 hours from Raleigh-Durham; and 4 hours from Atlanta.

Amtrak and Greyhound both stop near the conference site.

Parking at the university is limited, but some spaces are available with advanced notice. Both the city and the university have in-town public transit.
