About

Our 150+ staff members are invested in students' success and development. We regularly assess and improve our programs to help students get the most out of living on campus.

Vision

University Housing is committed to creating state-of-the-art facilities that are sustainable, safe, clean and well-maintained homes in order to enhance student learning beyond the classroom. Qualified and caring University Housing staff, in collaboration with students, will create quality student interactions that will inspire students to discover more about themselves and others, while reflecting on how to become inclusive and exemplary leaders, life-long learners and productive members of their community.

Mission

University Housing creates a sustainable living and learning community that promotes the academic success and personal development of students.

Goals

University Housing seeks to provide a meaningful college experience and to that end, we will:

  1. Create a physical and cultural environment where students and staff are encouraged to learn and grow.
  2. Provide sustainable, clean, well-maintained, functional and attractive facilities.
  3. Provide high-quality support services in a fiscally responsible manner.

Diversity

University Housing’s philosophy is grounded in the sentiment, “we care.” In the spirit of the Carolinian Creed, our goal is to foster a respectful environment in which students, faculty, staff and visitors feel welcomed, valued and included. We are committed to creating residence hall communities where everyone:

  1. Discourages gossip, mean-spirited attacks and bigotry.
  2. Demonstrates a commitment to individuality and concern for others.
  3. Acknowledges the validity of others’ feelings.
  4. Approaches ideas as a matter of perspective.
  5. Engages in respectful dialogue with one another.
  6. Learns from individual differences.

The Diversity Statement above was developed through efforts of the University Housing Diversity Committee and adopted across the department in 2011. As part of University Housing’s goal to create cultural environments to support learning and personal growth, several programs are promoted annually encouraging both student and staff participation. Examples include the Tunnel of Awareness, Diversity Art Program and our newest initiative—the Commitment to Inclusiveness award.
