Students pay in-state tuition and fees to UofSC and housing and living expenses to Aalto University. Students should budget approximately 600 - 1200 euros per month for housing, transportation, food and other daily needs. Depending on living arrangements students should also budget for utilities such as laundry expenses and wireless internet. Students also have the option of joining the Aalto University Student Union (AYY). The membership gives students special local transportation discounts and benefits. The membership also gives students a special discount on student cafeteria meals.

There are various departments to choose courses from. Some of the departments include Accounting, Management and International Business, Marketing, Finance, and Economics. Finnish language courses are available as well. Students have the option to pick from fundamental core courses and language and communication studies within International Business. The Aalto grading system is based off five points. An A is the equivalent of a 5, while an F is an equivalent of a 0.

Finns are big fans of associations, and many start their “association career” as students. There are around 200 clubs connected to AYY. From sports to culture and politics to international affairs, there is something for everyone. In addition to clubs, taking part in dozens of fun activities every year is an essential part of studying in Finland. Make sure you won’t miss the highlights of the year, such as May Day festivities (Wappu), anniversary balls (Vuosijuhlat), Shrove Tuesday sledging (Laskiaisrieha) and many others. AYY’s international volunteer groups such as Mosaic and ESN Aalto organise awesome events in English throughout the year.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.

There are student apartments available around the Helsinki area. Apartments usually consist of 3 to 5 bedrooms and a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom(s). Rent may vary between 230-520 euros per month.

Aalto's academic calendar is similar to UofSC's. Exchange student orientation day takes place during the second week of January. Classes also begin the second week of January and go through the end of May. There is an examination week in March and a final exam week at the end of the semester.

An orientation will provide valuable information on the academics, culture, safety, and valuable resources for international students. They will also discuss the university wide events that will be taking place through out the year.

Students will need to apply for a resident permit (not a visa) after receiving the Letter of Acceptance. The process may take up to 6 weeks. Travel arrangements must be made after the visa has been obtained.
