Author, filmmaker, and activist Diane Nilan will present, Changing the Paradigm of Homelessness. She  is founder and president of HEAR US Inc. Nilan has more than 30 years of experience running homeless shelters and advocating for improved state and federal homeless policies. Earlier this month, she was in Times Square to launch her latest book, Changing the Paradigm of Homelessness, along with co-authors, Salem State University professors Yvonne Vissing and Christopher Hudson. 

Since 2005, Nilan has lived on the road in her small van and traveled over 400,000 miles through 49 states. Her mission is giving voice and visibility to the 6.5+ million U.S. children and youth living in cars and shelters, on the streets, or “doubled up” with other families. 

She has filmed and produced two award-winning documentaries: My Own Four Walls and On the Edge, and authored Crossing the Line: Taking Steps to End Homelessness. Nilan has also presented in front of numerous university and congressional audiences.
