Diversity, equity, and inclusion are an inherent part of the social justice mission of social work. “The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.”¹ This work is not simply an ideal toward which we aspire as a profession, but the very essence of who we are in the world. Social workers keep equity and justice at the heart of our practice.
At the College of Social Work, we take this commitment very seriously. Social justice, equity, and inclusion are woven through our coursework, professional development, and interactions. We strive to be a diverse community where all people are included and valued, and where all have a place at the table. We are a community of learners who are always open to new ways of being and supporting each other on our journeys of discovery. The students, staff and faculty embody the commitment to be life-long learners in the pursuit of justice and equity, recognizing that knowledge is never complete.
