Our lab's goal is to better understand the development of heart disease in women and interrupt the development of heart disease in women with targeted interventions.

Research Participants Needed

We are looking for volunteers from the community to participate in our ongoing studies.

Vascular function after pregnancy

We are seeking women over age 18 who gave birth to a single baby, 6 months – 3 years ago to participate in a research study.  The study consists of one, 75-minute morning visit and includes: surveys about your medical history, mood, diet, and activity levels now and during pregnancy, blood pressure and vessel testing, an ultrasound of blood vessels, and a blood draw. Once the study visit is completed, you will receive $50. 

Vascular Health in Normotensive Pregnancy and Preeclampsia Study

The Women’s Vascular Health Lab is seeking pregnant women with and without preeclampsia to participate in a single visit study to help better understand how preeclampsia develops. If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible to participate: Women who are over age 18 and are pregnant with no pre-pregnancy diabetes, heart or kidney disease.  We are looking for:

  • Women who currently have preeclampsia.
  • Women who are at least 20 weeks pregnant and do not have preeclampsia.

What would I do for the study?

  • Come to our lab for one 40-minute visit (we provide a parking pass)
  • Complete short surveys about your medical history, diet, physical activity levels before and during pregnancy,
  • Undergo blood pressure and blood vessel testing
  • Donate a sample of your blood

Once your study visit is completed, you will receive a $30 gift card – free parking for visits.

Smartphone Apps in Pregnancy Study

Investigators in Exercise Science, TecHealth, and Obstetrics & Gynecology are seeking pregnant women to participate in a study to help better understand the effects of a smartphone intervention on health during pregnancy.  If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible to participate: Women who are over age 18 with a body mass index >18.5 and are <16 weeks pregnant with a single baby who are free from diabetes without restrictions on physical activity. 

We are looking for:

  • Women who own smartphones and keep them close by during the day.
  • Women who are willing to download an app on their smartphone.
  • Women who are willing to allow access to their medical chart for this pregnancy.

What would I do for the study?

  • Come to our lab for one 60-minute visit (we provide a parking pass)
  • Complete short surveys about your medical history, physical function and bodily pain, pregnancy-related nausea, sedentary behavior (sitting time), and physical activity levels
  • Have your weight measured
  • Grant access to your medical chart for this pregnancy for study-related variables only
  • Download an app
  • Wear an activity monitor for 1 week two times in your pregnancy
  • Complete surveys remotely (on your phone or computer) two times in your pregnancy

If you complete all portions of the study, you will receive $70 in gift cards – free parking for visit.
