Congratulations to Rebecca Caughman, Amee Shah, and Jessica Shue, who as Team Adheri Squad, won the
9th Annual National Student Pharmacists Compounding Competition, sponsored by LP3,
Medisca and Medisca Network. The Adheri Squad qualified for this competition after
winning the local competition held at the College of Pharmacy in January, and went
on to compete against the Top 20 Pharmacy compounding teams from universities across
the United States.
Each year, Medisca sponsors the National Student Pharmacist Compounding Competition.
To determine which team represents the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy,
a local competition was held on January 21, 2019. The competition began with 28 teams
each consisting of 3 pharmacy students. Twelve team finalists were determined by
judging a 3-minute compounding innovation piece that created a new technology or product line. On Monday, January
22, the winning team was judged by 4 compounding pharmacists during a 3-hour compounding formulation challenge in addition to the innovation piece.
USC-COP has competed for the past 6 years in this rigorous competition which includes
hands on compounding and testing regulatory knowledge. While at the competition, our representing
team will also film and discuss their innovation pieces. Kathy Quarles Moore directs
our local competition and coaches/advises our team during the national competition.
This year, the competition will take place on March 16-17 in Aventura, Florida. The
national competition is an extremely intense 2 days for the USC-COP local winning
team where they compete against approximately 22 other university compounding teams.
