Welcome to the University of South Carolina. Whether visiting our webpage, following social media or visiting our beautiful campus, you will observe a College of Nursing with an infectious momentum. Located at the flagship university for the state of South Carolina, our faculty, staff and strategic initiatives within the College are rapidly expanding as we execute our ambitious vision. Our commitment to quality, excellence and impact guides our actions. In response, our US News & World Report rankings, NIH rankings, national and international recognition have soared rapidly over the past several years. Perhaps, even more importantly, the heightened impact in our local region and communities generates a higher sense of accomplishment for our team.
In the past several years, our college has grown to 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 152 nationally and internationally known faculty, dedicated and resourceful staff and 10,000+ alumni. With our new and existing talent, the quality of our programs are exceptional. The May ’18 BSN graduates raised the bar with a record NCLEX pass rate of 100%, which exceeds our average cohort pass rates of 96%-97%. Our state-of-the-art Simulation Laboratory, innovative teaching strategies, Smart Start Honors program, study abroad opportunities and committed faculty provide our learners with optimal opportunities and environments to enhance growth and professional development. Nursing student learners have the opportunity to engage with collaborative peers and experts in medicine, pharmacy, social work and public health in the classroom and across regional and global healthcare systems. Recent trends highlight our nursing learners engaging with other partners in engineering, computer science, health administration and others seeking Degrees of Health to revolutionize the way we conceptualize healthcare delivery.
For the past four years, the College of Nursing has been ranked in the top 10 by the US News & World Report for best online graduate nursing programs. We excel in innovative nursing practice with the first nurse-managed medical home in the state housed in the College of Nursing’s Carolina Family Practice, and exceptional master’s and doctoral programs focused on nursing practice, nursing administration/leadership, and coming soon ---informatics. Our new Connected Health Center is being launched this Fall that will facilitate clinical and didactic interprofessional learning opportunities in telehealth.
Our research mission has enlarged with the addition of new faculty scholars who, with existing faculty, have generated over $15.5 million in new research and grant awards in the past 3 years. Our National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, now ranked in the top 30 in the US, continues to expand from pre-doctoral funding to post-doctoral, early investigator and senior investigator awards. Our PhD in Nursing Science program is thriving, with students receiving full or partial fellowships.
These accomplishments enhance our existing resources, such as the Center for Nursing Leadership, which houses the state’s nursing healthcare workforce center, the Cockcroft Leadership program, and the Institute of Medicine taskforce/SC One Voice One Plan.
