Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) are the engines that make research possible at the USC School of Medicine. Our bi-monthly seminar series brings together this group of research enablers in order to create a community of interest. The series focuses on improving clinical research skills and building a network of support by enabling discussion on trends, management issues, best practices and more.
Our Education Series offers educational opportunities for students, investigators and all members of the research community to gain state of the art research skills, engage with peers, colleagues, and facilitators to foster positive inquiry and enable interdisciplinary collaboration. Educational topics range from performing literature reviews and project feasibility assessments, to submitting successful grant applications and publishing scientific findings.
This Emerging Physician Scientists Program is designed to foster new physician faculty researchers by enhancing their skills in translational research and guiding them through the complexities of local and federal funding mechanisms. Support is offered by our team of experts and through pilot grants to explore preliminary research in your area of expertise.

The Student Opportunities for Academic Achievement through Research (SOAR) program is sponsored by the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education and allows USC SOM medical students to conduct research under the direction of an established scientist. This full-time, 8-week research experience constitutes an important element of a well-rounded medical education where students will learn how basic research integrates with clinical practice, moving science from “bench-to-bedside."
TRANSFORM SC is a statewide pediatric clinical trials network funded by a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant to boost participation in research for children and families across South Carolina. The grant places particular emphasis on clinical research to better understand and improve health outcomes for children and families living in rural and medically underserved areas of the state, which is critically important to states like South Carolina.

Atrium is a cloud-based collaboration management software with content management features that give us the ability to create calendars, share materials such as documents or videos, and even assign tasks with notification reminders.The Research Center for Transforming Health uses this tool to facilitate collaborative work by enabling faster information dissemination, better communication, and easier program oversight.
COS Pivot is a database containing funding opportunities for all disciplines and project types. It includes information on federal, private, and international funding options. It is available to all University of South Carolina faculty, staff and students, who may register for free.
eIRB manages the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process for human subjects research by providing a single platform to unify and streamline the IRB operations of participating organizations. This web-based, paperless system supports initial applications, tracking, and routing of all submission types through the approval process and documents information required for the review of human subjects’ research. This includes the initial application, amendments, reportable events, and continuing renewal submissions.
i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside) is an NIH-funded National Center for Biomedical Computing query tool. The South Carolina Clinical Data Warehouse, supported by Health Sciences South Carolina, is designed to assist investigators with data needed preparatory to research, such as indication of sample size and study feasibility. This allows investigators to design research questions or develop grant proposals based on data that may be available in the South Carolina Clinical Data Warehouse.
REDcap is a self-service tool available for surveys as well as data acquisition, capture, and management, and is provided to all USC students, staff, and faculty. The survey tool allows for various survey scenarios, including conditional logic, data uploads, and advanced formatting. All data are stored on a secure server and can be exported to formats useful to researchers for statistical analysis.
The University of South Carolina Electronic Research Administration system, known as USCeRA, is USC's central research administration software system. Researchers use USCeRA to create and provide information about the proposal, complete USC and some federally required forms, upload proposal components and route proposals for all necessary approvals as well as maintain their academic and research profiles.
