Dr. Strayer is Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. He completed his medical degree and residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, and completed a Master in Public Health at Saint Louis University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Strayer's areas of special expertise are: Family Medicine, including endoscopy (colonoscopy, EGD, flexible sigmoidoscopy), smoking cessation, obstetrics (prenatal), dermatology/skin lesions, vasectomy, patients of all ages. His research interests are Health Information Technology and Smoking cessation. Dr. Strayer cares for patients of all ages. He is an active Air Force reservist and father of two. Dr. Strayer focuses on helping patients change unhealthy behaviors and has special expertise in smoking cessation, weight loss and exercise. With additional surgical training, Dr. Strayer performs vasectomies and performs other minor in-office surgeries, including mole removals. He also provides colonoscopies to screen for colon cancer and EGD's for heartburn and dyspepsia symptoms. When he's not busy with family, Dr. Strayer spends time fly fishing in the region and enjoys flying remote control planes. Dr. Strayer welcomes new patients to his practice at University Specialty Clinics, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.
