Dr. Joy Shen-Wagner comes to Columbia with her husband to be a part of the growing Palmetto Health & USC family. She is passionate about teaching Family Medicine residents and inspiring medical students that will become future primary care physicians and leaders in their community. Her academic areas of interests include improving the primary care physician and patient experience, improving access to health care and protecting and advocating for our vulnerable populations.
Dr. Shen has her bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, VA, and is a graduate of Sutter Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Sacramento, CA. She recently moved from Destin, Florida where she worked in the immediate care setting, while her husband was stationed at Pensacola, FL with the Navy. She originally immigrated to the United States with her family from Shanghai, China when she was six years old. She enjoys home cooked meals, farmer's markets, jogging in Columbia and taking her dog for long walks in the woods.
