Paulette Edwards serves the University of South Carolina School of Law/Children’s Law Center as a Court Liaison, primarily for Orangeburg County. She assists the Family Court by tracking and expediting the legal processing of child protection and termination of parental rights (TPR) cases. She is responsible for reviewing case files, preparing information sheets for the Court and assisting in resolving issues to prevent delayed hearings. An honors graduate of Alabama State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and thereafter a Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law. After admission to the South Carolina Bar, she represented indigent citizens as a Richland County Assistant Public Defender. She thereafter served the Supreme Court of South Carolina as a Staff Attorney in the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, investigating and prosecuting ethical grievances against judges and lawyers. In 2002, she opened the Law Office of Paulette Edwards, PA and operated a successful defense practice until its closing in January 2011, leaving to serve the citizens of Richland and Kershaw counties as Deputy Solicitor (District Attorney) of the Fifth Judicial Circuit. She again maintains a law practice and presents in the community on legal issues regarding lawyer ethics, the criminal justice system and the juvenile and adult expungement process. She is admitted to the Fourth Circuit United States District Court and is a Certified Family Court Mediator.
