Center for Mega-Event Research and Education (CMERE)

The Center for Mega-Event Research and Education conducts research and shares knowledge to inform stakeholders and advance best practices regarding mega-events and venue management for large-scale and international activities such as the Olympic Games, F.I.F.A. football and entertainment and sports festivals.

Established in December 2017, the Center for Mega-Event Research and Education (CMERE) at the University of South Carolina is a cross-disciplinary research center that addresses sporting and entertainment events ranging from community hosted, traveling sport competitions to city festivals to the Olympic Games. Mega-events are: transformative, attract relatively large numbers of participants, can have international participation and have impact beyond the event itself.

These events and the venues that host them are intertwined sectors representing a global, multi-billion dollar industry that has political, social, economic, environmental and cultural impacts on neighborhoods, cities, regions and nations.

CMERE is dedicated to conducting research and disseminating knowledge to inform stakeholders and advance best practices in responsible management and planning regarding large-scale events, venues and stakeholder impact.
