What drew you to the field of medicine?
Although I have dreamed of being a doctor for as long as I can remember, my aspirations were especially strengthened through the Columbia VA Student Research Program, where I spent a summer immersed in medical research, ethics, biomedical technology, and public health. I participated in a variety of enriching activities, from observing echocardiograms in mice to gaining my CPR certification. With the several tours, demonstrations, lectures, and seminars I experienced through this intensive program, I was able to solidify my passion for medicine. I have pursued this by continuing my involvement and volunteer work at both the Columbia VA Healthcare System and my local VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
What are your plans after attending medical school?
Although I am not entirely sure of which specialty of medicine I will pursue after medical school, I do know that I hope to have a blend of clinical practice and research. I believe that research will help me be part of moving my chosen medical field forward while at the same time allow me to realize my goal of helping to care for people.
