Purpose
Waverly is an after-school education and enrichment program for underserved students in the Columbia community. Their mission is to enhance the lives and opportunities of children in the Columbia community; to serve as educational role models’ who provide a fun, safe and caring experience; and to develop the self-esteem and literacy skills of all children who participate and help them realize that they can succeed regardless of any challenges they face. Waverly accomplishes their mission by providing tutoring and mentoring across age groups.
Recent efforts have been focused on working with Homeless No More, which serves local families in the Columbia area who struggle with homelessness by offering housing and education amongst other family support services. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to support children's education by not only helping with schoolwork, but by serving as a role model and forming relationships with them.
