Ambassador applications for summer 2025 and the 2025-2026 academic year will open Monday, March 17. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m.
Prospective applicants can learn more about our Ambassador positions by attending our interest meeting. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 19 from 6 – 6:30 p.m. in the Honors Residence Hall, room B110.
Honors Ambassadors in Action
Honors College Ambassadors assist with information sessions, admitted student panels and various recruitment events where they present to prospective students by sharing detailed information about the South Carolina Honors College and their personal experiences as Honors students.
- Information Sessions take place every Monday and Friday, and Honors Ambassadors assist from 11:15 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Admitted Student Panels take place between February and April every Monday and Friday, and Honors Ambassadors assist from 10 – 11:15 a.m.
Ambassadors represent the Honors College at recruitment events (Meet the SCHC, Open Houses, etc.) and assist with outreach efforts to prospective students, their parents and supporters.
Our Honors Ambassador team consists of approximately 16-18 members during the academic year.
Time commitments vary throughout the semester, but Ambassadors average 3-5 hours a week and are paid a starting rate of $10 per hour.
Ambassadors are required to attend biweekly meetings (every other Friday, from 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.) during the semester for ongoing training and professional development.
Ambassadors are required to participate in at least two additional recruiting events per semester.
Honors Ambassadors must be able to:
- Speak confidently to groups and individuals, explaining the benefits of the SCHC, answering questions and providing information in a clear and engaging manner
- Be well-versed regarding the academic programs, opportunities, general admissions process and student life offered at USC and in Honors
- Adapt communication styles to suit different types of events, audiences and tasks
- Be proactive and approachable in engaging with prospective students
- Work as a collaborative, active and supportive team member
- Embody the values and culture of the SCHC and set a positive example for others
- Connect with prospective students with cultural competency to ensure that everyone feels welcome and respected
- Use personable and professional written communication to respond to prospective student inquiries
Summer Honors Ambassadors
Each spring, 3 – 5 students are hired to serve as Summer Honors College Ambassadors. Most often, these students are already serving as Honors Ambassadors or have been hired to begin serving as an Honors Ambassador in the fall. In rare cases, some students are hired as only Summer Ambassadors.
Students selected to be Summer Honors Ambassadors will assist with summer information sessions and Honors Orientation. Summer information sessions are nearly identical to those that occur during the fall and spring semesters. Summer Honors Ambassadors will assist the Recruitment Manager with planning, organizing and presenting at each of the nine Honors Orientation sessions during the summer. They will also assist on other projects designed to create community among the incoming first-year class, which may include team-building games, social media content creation and outreach.
Position dates: May 15 – August 1, 2025*
Paid position: $12 per hour – summer rate only
Between 5 to 10 hours per week with availability for each of the nine Honors Orientation sessions in June and July..
This position can be paired with other summer commitments depending on scheduling, but information sessions and Honors Orientation will take place in person. Students hired must plan to live in Columbia for summer. Housing is not included in position.
*Summer Honors Ambassadors must meet all the eligibility criteria of traditional Honors Ambassadors, as they will continue working for the Honors College in fall 2025 as traditional Honors Ambassadors (except in very special cases).
Summer Honors Ambassadors must be able to:

- Work as a collaborative, active and supportive team member
- Embody the values and culture of the SCHC and set a positive example for others
- Connect with prospective students with cultural competency to ensure that everyone feels welcome and respected
- Use personable and professional written communication to respond to prospective student inquiries
Ambassador Eligibility and Expectations
Applicants must have completed at least one semester in the Honors College prior to the application deadline and must be in good standing with Honors College progression requirements. Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider applicants who are graduating in December 2025 or May 2026.
Applicants must be available on Fridays from 2:30 - 4 p.m, as all Ambassadors are expected to attend biweekly meetings for ongoing training and professional development.
Factors in Consideration
The Honors College is looking for students with a demonstrated ability to meet all expectations and responsibilities of the Ambassador position. We seek to add new Ambassadors who complement the availability, majors and experiences represented by the current Ambassador team. Our goal is to form a well-rounded and diverse team of Honors Ambassadors who can speak about various aspects of the Honors College student experience.
