The Honors Residence Hall

During your time at the Honors College you'll make connections that will last a lifetime, and the Honors Residence Hall is an excelllent place to start. This award-winning building offers state-of-the-art amenities including washers and dryers that text you when your laundry is done and an indoor bicycle storage room with a shower for cleaning your bike.

The Perks

You might begin your day with an Honors College class taught in a classroom on the first floor, then grab a coffee and work on a group project in one of the many study rooms, and relax with a ping-pong break in the gameroom or yoga on the lawn.

Sharing meals is a great way to make friends and get to know the Honors College community. The full-service Honeycomb Ca on the first floor of the Honors Residence Hall is a convenient place to eat, talk, and relax with friends and even faculty. Our dining hall serves wholesome, healthy food featuring fresh, in-season produce from local farms. In fact, at least 25 percent of the menu is Certified South Carolina Grown!

We also offer specially-designated options for students with dietary restrictions, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

No time to stop?  Pick up a quick coffee at the in-house Starbucks café or grab a bite after class at any of the 25 restaurants on campus.

The Honors Residence Hall's first floor is a public space, available to all students during open hours. It's a dynamic place to relax and entertain friends. The residence hall also provides private community areas specifically for Honors College students where they socialize, study, and just hang out. There are furnished living rooms and study rooms on each floor, shared by a handful of students.

With an average of over 200 days of sunshine a year in Columbia, you'll want to spend lots of time outside. Our outdoor courtyard has chairs and tables, rocking chairs on a shaded patio, and large green spaces for lounging and playing.

The Honors Residence Hall offers frequent activities to foster community and just have fun. Recent events have included trivia competitions, casino night and Woodstock, with 60’s-style costumes and musical performances by Honors College students.

We also have a fully-stocked game room on the first floor that includes a ping pong table where our dean has been known to hold tournaments, a big screen TV for movie nights and lively current events discussions, board game tables and even a keyboard for keeping up your piano skills.

Three dynamic smart classrooms and a conference room are all part of the facility. Many Honors College classes are held in these rooms, so students can attend class without having to leave the building! The rooms are also available for Honors College students to use on weekday evenings and anytime on weekends, for club meetings, study sessions, and other group activities.

During the day the first floor of the Honors Residence Hall is open to the greater University community for access to classrooms, dining facilities, and the game room. Only residents have access to the upper floors. The residence hall also has 14 Resident Mentors, a live-in Residence Life Coordinator, and elevator security.
