South Carolina Honors College

Taylor Williams

Ask me about… getting involved on Campus, the pre-health career track, the best local restaurants, and tips on joining the Honors College as a current UofSC student.

Hey everyone! My name is Taylor Williams and I am a Public Health major and African American Studies minor from Columbia, SC. Apart from being an Honors Ambassador, I serve as the Publicity/Special Events Chair for the Black Honors Caucus, the Vice President of the Minority Association of Pre-Health students, and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a local clinic in northeast Columbia. In the future, I hope to work in both the clinical and non-profit side of medicine, and advocate for the reduction of racial health disparities!

My advice for prospective students: The university that you choose to spend your next four years at is a decision that you shouldn’t take lightly. Be sure to take into account the community that your desire from a school, the campus culture, camps location, and the academics when making this decision, so that you can find the school that is the best fit!

My advice for current students: Enjoy each moment that college offers you! Do not be so laser-focused on your career goals, plans, and future that you neglect to enjoy the small moments----midnight conversations with roommates, trips to the dinings hall, community service activities, and all-nighters in the TCOOP. College moves so quickly and you will regret not cherishing those times once they are gone.

My favorite thing about the Honors College: The close-knit community that the Honors College offers. From the teachers, students, and Organizations within the Honors College, I have gained a community of people that support and push me to encourage me towards fulfilling my goals!

My reason for choosing the SCHC: I chose to join the South Carolina Honors College after completing my freshman year, and it has been one of my greatest decisions so far. My reason for doing so was to find a smaller community within the larger UofSC community, and I have found it in the SCHC!

My favorite things: My favorite things include: binge watching A Different World (and all other 90’s TV Shows), the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, and any show wedding related! I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, and trying out new restaurants and bakeries. Finally, I have recently got into cooking and baking new recipes, and one of my goals this year was to cook/bake 50 things that I have never made before!

Theme song of my life:It would be Evie Mckinney’s “Just Like God”. My life is a living testament of this song, and I know that all I have gained in life is all due to God!

Favorite movie: The Parent Trap featuring Lindsay Lohan will forever be my favorite movie of all time. I watched that show monthly growing up, and in my opinion, is one of the best Disney movies to date!

I’m motivated by: I am motivated by a lot of things, but my main motivation is my desire to live out God’s purpose for my life. In addition to this, I am also motivated by my family and my heart’s desire to leave the World a little better than it was when I entered it!

My hero: My hero is easily my mother! My mother has made countless sacrifices for my brother and I to achieve the goals we have set for life, and I will never be able to thank her enough!

My dream job: My dream job would be a career that merges my passion for the clinical and non-profit side of Public Health. Once I graduate, I hope to work in the non-profit portion of Public Health, and utilize those experiences and lessons to become a Family Medicine P.A serving underserved populations within the State!

My life goal: As cheesy as it sounds, the “white-picket fence” life is a goal of mine that I truly desire. I would love to have a family and be satisfied living out God’s  purpose for my life. At the end of my life, I hope to always be remembered as a person that has a beautiful heart!

My escape: My “escape” is quite silly, but whenever I am having a bad day, I love to binge watch Family Feud episodes from both the United States and abroad. I find Family Feud to be hilarious, especially the episodes with Steve Harvey as the host! One day, you may see me competing on the show (if I can convince my family! :)

Something I will always do: Regardless of how amazing or difficult life is, I will always implement self care into my schedule! You cannot pour into others without pouring into yourself first, and that is why self-care is something that I always prioritize!

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
