B.S. (Bachelor of Science in Engineering) - Electrical Engineering

In just four short years our B.S. degree could put you on the fast track to success. Follow the sample curriculum to see what it takes to become an electrical engineer. Or you can take advantage of our accelerated program and earn both a bachelor's and master's degrees in as few as 5 years.

Our sample curriculum below walks you through a typical four-year sequence. Remember, lab courses build on the content of other courses, so it is important that you take them in the right sequence, and at the right times, so that you can successfully integrate the knowledge gained in other classes into a solid understanding of electrical engineering. Follow the curriculum and you can't go wrong and our advsisors can help you if you have any questions!

Year One

You’ll start in our Lower Division where your freshman year courses will build basic skills in math, science, computing, and humanities, and give you a taste of Electrical Engineering.

In your second year, you’ll get a firm grounding in the fundamentals of electrical engineering while you continue to build skills in math and science.

Year Four

In your senior year, focus on what you’re good at and what you enjoy by taking depth courses that will prepare you for your career goals. Polish it all off with your Capstone Design Project, where you’ll design and build a challenging project that will prepare you for the real world of engineering. Of course we won’t just toss you into the deep end with this design project; you’ll have been thoroughly prepared by a string of laboratory courses that provide hands-on experiences that reinforce the theoretical content of your coursework.

Carolina Core is the foundation of USC’s undergraduate academic experience. Carolina Core courses prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex world. You must meet all of the Carolina Core requirements, which will depend on their selection of courses. During advisement, the department can provide updated lists of approved courses. To meet the Carolina Core Global Citizenship-Foriegn Language requirement, a score of "2" or better is required on the Foreign Language Placement Test. Otherwise, an approved 3 hour Carolina Core GFL course must be passed to meet the Foreign Language requirement.

How can I enhance my degree?

With our Bachelor’s/Master’s Degrees Accelerated Program you may be eligible to complete both the bachelor's degree and master's degree in as few as five years. The use of dual credit-courses that can be used toward both degrees enables acceleration of the program, reducing the total enrollment of the student by one semester.
